One advantage of being an academic is that although you have no less work to do than people in “normal’ jobs, you have more choice of when to do it. So, after a long Sunday afternoon of marking, reviewing an article and sending dozens of emails, I felt like a walk. It has been snowing all day pretty much. But, expecting a sharp cold hit in the face, I was pleased to find instead that the air was perfectly still, it was quite mild and the snow was starting to melt. Scrunch was already turning to slurp. But the view was lovely. These fuzzy pictures don’t really do it justice.

Hello Simon, do you think it will still be snowing around Feb 12th? I will be escaping the Dubai winter for a visit.

For what it’s worth, the BBC weather one month ahead forecast says for Monday 4 February—Sunday 17 February
“Still pretty cold, with a further chance of snow”

Excellent! I’m bringing my winter t-shirt (it’s got a collar).
